AMTC 2022 – Advanced Manufacturing Technology Conference 2022 – Event highlights

The Advanced Manufacturing Technology Conference AMTC 2022 revitalized the additive manufacturing community with new ethos. With more than 2000 participants from 69 countries, AMTC has grown into a global event for innovation in AM. Check out the highlights of the event here.

This year’s, fifth AMTC – Advanced Manufacturing Technology Conference hosted by Oerlikon was a great success, bringing together decision makers and influencers from all parts of the AM ecosystem.

From October 11-12, 2022, the most influential C-level event in Additive Manufacturing gathered on-site and online more than 2,000 participants from 69 countries, 33 partners, 69 speaker and 30 startup exhibitors in a 2-day conference in Munich, Germany.

The conference theme this year was: Connecting Opportunities - Driving the AM Ecosystem. What does it mean? The message is clear, collaboration is key. We need more openness. The AM industry needs to work even closer together to achieve more.

Our long-time presenter, Dr. Melinda Crane, sums it up perfectly: "What struck me about this year's AMTC was the positive energy even in the midst of challenging times - including the optimism that AM can help provide solutions for supply chain resilience. 'Thinking additive' is like a language - it gives you a whole new perspective of the world."

Here are some highlights of this year’s event:

  • The AM community is constantly growing and getting stronger: a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Bavarian AM Cluster signed by representatives from the seven companies - AUDI AG, EOS, GE Additive, Linde, MTU Aero Engines, Oerlikon and Siemens - and the Technical University of Munich (TUM).
  • Airbus and Oerlikon demonstrated collaboration. Jointly with our customer Airbus Defense and Space we showed how Additive Manufacturing and a close, trustworthy relationship enables Airbus to reduce the lead time from six months to two weeks to receive a final AM antenna cluster.
  • Great discussions about AM as a key lever for sustainability. It needs high level leadership in organizations to lead sustainability efforts. Leadership is key.
  • A trend study on the Futures of Metal Additive Manufacturing 2030 that investigates on new, evolving industries that probably aren’t currently on the radar of the AMTC partners.
