Pfäffikon SZ, 24th August 2011 - The Sauber F1 Team and the Oerlikon Group have concluded a partnership aimed at the development and expansion of environmentally friendly measures. These include a project for a solar park at the team's headquarters in Hinwil as a starting point.
"With its extreme challenges, Formula One has always been a technology pioneer," says Team Principal Peter Sauber, "and our aim is to extend this to our company's environmental compatibility as well. We are very pleased to have found in Oerlikon a highly competent technology partner."
Dr Michael Buscher, CEO of Oerlikon, explains: "With its coatings for highly stressed components, Oerlikon Coating has long been a partner of Formula One and of the Sauber F1 Team. Eco-friendly technologies are playing an increasingly important role in our company. With our know-how and in collaboration with Peter Sauber's renowned team, we want to play our part in improving their environmental rating. We look forward to taking on this challenge."
The construction of a solar park in Hinwil featuring silicon thin-film solar modules is already in the planning stage. A visible sign of the new technology partnership can be found in the Oerlikon logo, which features on the Sauber F1 Team's gear and equipment with immediate effect.
