Oerlikon Metco Celebrates 10 Years of Growth in China

Oerlikon Metco, a technology leader in the surface solutions market, began operations in China a decade ago with the opening of a facility in the Min Hang district to provide the market with distinctive options for surface processes, coating equipment, materials, and services. Operations have since expanded, thereby improving on customer offerings through a network of sales, services and distribution centers in Shanghai, and with flexible business models such as a joint venture in Sichuan.

Since the start of operations a decade ago, Oerlikon Metco has grown from five to over 300 employees. From inception, Oerlikon Metco’s focus has been on offering complete application support along with a wide-ranging product portfolio. The company has evolved into an all-encompassing organization in China providing the marketplace surface enhancement products such as coating application systems, materials and full coating services. These coating solutions increase customer profitability for many industries through improved service life, functionality and performance of their products. Oerlikon Metco’s innovative and sustainable solutions are deliberately designed to add value for and strengthen the competitive position of their customers.

Ten years operating in China is a significant milestone and a cause for celebration. That is exactly what Oerlikon Metco employees did on September 25 at the Jiading facility. The event brought together all local team members as well as some personnel from other global sites, including representatives from Oerlikon Balzers, Oerlikon Metco’s sister company in Oerlikon’s Surface Solutions Segment.
