No, certainly not. At least not in the textile world. A challenge for sure, but a manageable one. This is demonstrated by the ideas, projects and successes along the textile value chain with which the players are helping to make a textile circular economy possible and, above all, scalable.
In Europe, the European Apparel and Textile Industry Association EURATEX is one of the drivers of such ideas and projects. One example: ReHubs Europe, founded at the beginning of October 2023 as a non-profit organization, has set itself the goal of recycling 2.5 million tonnes of textile waste by 2030. An ambitious goal that organizations from all areas of the industry are working towards together. A first necessary step: a significant increase in European collection and sorting capacity.
Another project coordinated by EURATEX is RegioGreenTex. The aim is to promote cooperation in research and development for the textile industry between the four main sectors of society - industry, government, research institutes and the public - in the introduction of a systematic circular economy business model throughout the EU. The main participants are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and start-ups, research institutes and other innovation hubs
