High-performance pumps for special applications
Remscheid, May 13, 2014 – at this year’s UTECH – taking place on June 4 and 5 in Charlotte, North Carolina – Oerlikon Barmag will be exhibiting both new developments and proven products from its metering pumps division.
In many technical processes, highly-accurate metering of liquids is a fundamental prerequisite for guaranteeing the required product qualities and efficient process management. The Oerlikon Barmag gear metering pumps flawlessly fulfill these requirements in the various applications. Here, the standard pump for many metering tasks has for many years been the square design from the proven GM series.
Working under high pressure
The expanded series, which now includes round designs, opens up a whole range of new application possibilities. The pressure levels of this low-pulsation gear pump allow low-viscosity media to be metered even against high pressure. This multi-stage pump is available in 0.05 through 20 cc/rev feed sizes and guarantees the build-up of the required high operating pressures even at low viscosities (for example, 250 bar, 100 mPas). This permits higher volumetric degrees of efficiency or a greater useable speed range. Hence, it is excellently suited for use in high-pressure machines for manufacturing molded parts, foam slab stock, refrigeration unit insulations and sandwich panels, for example.
Efficiency in mastering viscous media – the GA range
When applying hot-melt adhesives, for example, the primary objective is to apply the medium as evenly as possible. However, high-precision metering not only presupposes the fast and reproducible setting of an operating point, but also the low-pulsation feeding of the conveying medium. The Oerlikon Barmag GA range has been especially developed for the challenging conveying of media with higher viscosities. It is available for conveying volumes of between 1.25 – 30 cm³/rev (0.6-144 l/h) and designed for pressures of up to 200 bar, for viscosities of up to 1,500 Pas and for temperatures up to a maximum of 225 °C. With this range of pumps, Oerlikon Barmag now offers tailor-made solutions for applications requiring accurately-defined, even metering.
Conveying and metering in a single unit – drum pumps
The drum pump has been designed specifically for conveying and metering high-viscosity materials, such as adhesives, silicones, etc., from drums and other large containers and for pressures of up to 250 bar. Thorsten Wagener, the salesman responsible for industrial and chemical application pumps at Oerlikon Barmag: “The drum pump not only removes high-viscosity materials from the drum, it also meters the medium to the mixer head without any additional interim stops and with the customarily-high volumetric degree of efficiency.” In close collaboration with the customer, the gear pump and the drum follower plate are so aligned to each other that the plate can effortlessly reach the bottom of the container, hence leaving a very low residue of < 1%, which has a positive impact on both the material costs and the production process.
