Balzers, Liechtenstein, 19 April 2016 – Oerlikon Balzers makes a major investment in its India business by expanding its Bengaluru Automotive Solutions facility.
Operations in Bengaluru, Oerlikon Balzers’ third Indian site, started in 2001 and were mainly focused on coatings for cutting tools. The company subsequently introduced the first dedicated coating solutions for the automotive industry to its Indian customers only four years later. The new Automotive Solutions building now triples the size of the existing Oerlikon Balzers service centre in the Southern Indian mega city.
With this significant investment in the future and in the Indian market, Oerlikon Balzers can now provide its customers from various industries with better and faster service, as well as with an extended portfolio - focused on the automotive market, but also taking in the aerospace, oil & gas, medical, textile and machining market for Precision Components. “Complementing the established Asian centers in China, Korea, Thailand and Japan, the new Bengaluru Automotive Solutions facility will enable Oerlikon Balzers to provide the latest technology, know-how and infrastructure virtually on our customers' doorsteps,” says Pravin Shirse, General Manager of Oerlikon Balzers India.
In his opening speech, Dr Roland Herb, CEO of the Surface Solutions of the Oerlikon Group, of which Oerlikon Balzers is a part, pointed out that “this investment shows the growing importance of the automotive components business within the Surface Solutions Segment and in India. We expect the government's ‘Make in India’ campaign to be a strong driver for the future of the Indian economy. We don't just want to be a part of this development, but rather want to actively contribute to it, by driving and supporting the successful development of our key markets and our key customers in India.”
Oerlikon Balzers operates a total of eight customer centres on the Indian sub-continent.
